18-19 Year in Review

18-19 School Year in Review!.png

The 18-19 School year is wrapping up, so here are some highlights from another great year in the Blue Moon Bassoon Studio!

18-19 in Review

This year I was fortunate to teach 1,071 lessons to 40 students at 8 different schools! I also made nearly 250 reeds for students alone. Each reed takes roughly 15 minutes to make from start to finish over a period of days, so that totals 60.75 hours of reedmaking for student reeds this year! Be sure to check out the past reedmaking blog posts if you’re curious about the process of making reeds or the tools I use.

Summer Lessons

For students in the Blue Moon Bassoon studio, the summer lesson schedule is now open! Please make sure to schedule at least 3 lessons by logging in and selecting any open times. If you don’t see a time that works for you, please contact me and we’ll add some new times for you! Lessons will be held at my home studio in Oak Hill or via Skype.

Summer Camps

There are some great summer camps around Central Texas that can help you stay in good playing shape and even improve your skills over the summer! I highly recommend Longhorn Music Camp, Bocal Majority, Texas State Music Camp.

I’ll be teaching lessons and masterclasses at Longhorn Music Camp this year, so I hope to see you there!

Summer Assignments

Check your lesson notes by logging in to see what your summer assignments are. All students should be working the following items in addition to specially assigned repertoire for each student.

  1. Major Scales & Arpeggios - make sure to practice them with the metronome. Focus on the keys you struggle with the most, but try to review all of them each week.

  2. Chromatic Scale - work on making this as fast and clean as possible. Practice different speeds and try adding lower or higher notes to extend your chromatic as far as you can!

  3. Blue Moon Book or Weissenborn Etudes - try to learn one new song or etude a week.

If you get bored, or need more music please feel free to email me or login to your account to check out music in the downloads section!

Have a great summer and I’ll see you all soon!
