Highlights from My Teaching Career

Highlights from My Teaching Career - Amanda Pierce

I began teaching lessons professionally in 2012 and went full-time in 2014. Here are some of the highlights from my teaching career!

My Teaching Career in Numbers

  • 173 bassoon students ages 11-19

  • 15 Schools across 4 School Districts

  • 3,531+ hours of teaching in 7,200+ lessons

  • 1,106 Zoom lessons during COVID-19

  • 177 masterclasses + beginner classes

  • 2,740+ bassoon reeds made by hand (thanks Barton Cane!)

  • 11 Summer Camps - 7 with Bocal Majority + 4 with Longhorn Music

  • 3 bassoon books designed & self-published in 2017 & 2020

This information was collected from reports created in My Music Staff which I began using in 2015. If you are a private lesson teacher, I highly recommend checking it out! MMS is a great web app that handles invoicing, attendance, calendars, repertoire, and more for music teachers.

In mid 2021 I announced that I will no longer be teaching lessons. Iโ€™ve decided to focus less on one-on-one work and more on creating education resources and creating online content. I have had many great experiences as a teacher and I feel very fortunate to have worked with so many amazing students and schools!

Performing as a Freelance Musician

Teaching was always my primary focus, but I also had the opportunity to perform with some incredible musicians here in Austin!

Here are some of my favorite performances:

  • 2019: Ein deutsches Requiem (Brahms) with the Austin Symphony and Texas State Faculty Orchestra

  • 2019: Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert with the Austin Symphony

  • 2018-2019: Silent Night (Puts) & Otello (Verdi) with the Austin Opera

  • 2014-2017: 4 performances with the Go: Organic Orchestra (fully improvised orchestral performances)

  • 2013: Mass in B minor (Bach) with the University of South Carolina Orchestra & Choir - Tour of Spain
