Essential Gifts for Bassoonists

Essential Bassoon Gifts

Shopping for gifts for a new bassoonist or looking to upgrade your bassoon supplies? Below are a variety of great, practical items for bassoonists of all levels. These are my recommended picks for students and include many items that I keep in my case!

The classic bassoon method book for beginners through advanced bassoonists. I’m a big fan of the new edition edited by Frank Morelli. The spiral-bound version is easy to flip through and keep on the music stand. This book has been the standard method book for bassoonists for over a hundred years! I also love that this edition includes Volume 1, Volume 2 and the Milde Scale and Chord Studies.

This bassoon reed case has great ventilation to keep reeds protected and dry when not playing. The interior ribbon holder keeps reeds secure, and the sleek plastic is sturdy and easy to clean. This is the reed case I always recommended to my students.

This high-quality, non-slip bassoon seat strap feels luxurious and holds up to years of use. Available in hook and cup styles. This seat strap is particularly great for young students. It does a great job of keeping the bassoon from sliding around and makes it much easier to hold it steady.

These reed water cups are the perfect size to fit the entire bassoon reed and come with a lid to prevent spills.

A beautiful, practical silk swab with a chain drop for cleaning moisture from the bassoon. These are my favorite brand and I always have one in my case. Also available in blue.

Folding Music Stand with Case

This music stand is easy to set up and it folds up small for storage and travel. Perfect for band students who need a portable music stand or don’t have room for a full size option at home.

A must-have for band students and musicians of all levels. I prefer using a physical metronome tuner rather than an app most of the time. Many band students are also required to bring one to class with them, and the microphone clip makes it easy to tune while playing with others.

This is one of my favorite gig bags! If your bassoon case isn’t in great shape, this is a high-quality and reasonably priced option for a replacement. The back pack is comfortable and I love being able to put my bassoon away upright.

I hope you’ve enjoyed browsing this list of my favorite bassoon essentials.
